“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. You don’t win once in a while, you don’t do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
-Vince Lombardi
Time Management
Time management is self discipline in action, and self discipline is the key to success
GOALS
Personal / Family - why you’re alive
Business - career, financial, material
Self development - your ability and willingness to develop yourself
What would you do if you just won a million dollars - what would you do differently
What would you do if you just learnt today, you only have 6 months to live? -tells you your values
What one thing would you set as a goal if you knew you could not fail? - why you’re put on this earth
Need to be in writing!!!!! Clear & Specific!!! Carry them around with you
Organized plans of action
Action without planning is the cause of every failure
Take your goal, and write out every step that you need to take to achieve it. Order of steps
Continuous goal setter and planner
Either you are working towards the accomplishment
Analysis
Make a list! The week before, the night before (subconscious goes to work while you’re asleep
When you use a list, every time you check something off - it gives you a feeling of accomplishment
A successful life is based on a series of successful days, and successful days are based on working through a list
Set priorities!
What is relevant, and what is irrelevant
80/20 rule - 80% of the value of what you do is contained in the 20% of what you do
Highly effective people work on the vital few vs on the trivial many
What is the most valuable use of my time, right now?
Before you begin, ask if this the most important thing I could be doing
What impact will the accomplishment of this task have on my future?
Deal with the opportunities of the future, unimportant will deal with the present or the past, not the future
Concentration
LEARN TO CONCENTRATE - on one thing at a time. Stay with it until it’s finished
Once you have made a list - organized by priority - stay with it until it’s finished. If it takes a long time, that’s ok because if it is the most important than it will be the most effective
Gives you a feeling of energy and enthusiasm
“The very worst thing in the world, is to do very well what need not be done at all.”
A - The things that you must do B - the things that you should do C - The things it would be nice to do if you’ve got all your As & Bs done D - Delegate E - Eliminate
GOALS that you would like to do in the next 5 years - then ABC it
The telephone is for business
Hi, how can I help you?
Create an agenda
Don’t answer!
Talkative people - say you have another call coming
“The power is on the side with the person who keeps the best notes”
Never pick up the telephone without a pen in your hand
“If a person picks up the phone without a pen in their hand, you know this person is going nowhere in life”
People are time wasters!
Punctuality
If you aren’t early, you’re late
It is so important!!!
Don’t keep people waiting
Lack of concentration
Do fewer, but more important things
Leaders - concentrating their time on doing what they do best
Make fewer mistakes
Do things together - teamwork!
Time management - the word no is the most important thing
NO - learn to say no!!
Early and often!
Let me think about it, and get back to you
Most people do not value their time, so they do not value yours
Balance - the enhance quality in life
Relationships - determine quality in life
Highest value must be the people that you love
What would you do if you only had 6 months to live?
Ask that question over and over again, and you’ll tend to keep your life in balance
Develop that sense of urgency
Practice until it becomes a habit
fast tempo is necessary to success
